The problem to be addressed in this dissertation is how population size estimates are made using capture-recapture methods when there are known errors of observation in the data. This work is a synthesis of two statistical methodologies: capture-recapture estimation and the analysis of nonsampling errors (in particular, misclassification). In combining two methodologies, there can be confusion about the model being used, terms employed, and goals. This chapter is a description of data collection methods and the model to be studied; it is intended to be self contained so that persons unfamiliar with the literature of the two methodologies can have a full understanding of the problem with no further research.
